Energy!!!

She is all about the Yin in the studio, but out side she is full of energy

Siobhan, our Thursday evening Yin guru has been full of yang energy this summer and just completed the Fidra swim from Yellowcraigs to Fidra and back. She has shared with us her account of what it felt like.

“I have been a sea swimmer since 2021 but only started swimming front crawl in January 2023. Before that I was mainly a dipper or breast stroker! I set myself the challenge of the Fidra swim because I've come to find a lot of peace and thinking time when I'm in the water and there's nothing like a faceful of the salty North Sea to make you feel alive! The event was tough and the sea conditions less than ideal with a huge amount of swell and waves.

I found the outer leg a real challenge and could feel panic starting to rise as I kept swallowing more sea water and being bashed around in the waves with my inner critic making an appearance and saying 'I couldn't do it'. In that time I found myself coming back to my yoga practice and breathwork. In my head I was telling myself 'I am breathing in, I am breathing out' and a mini pep talk reminding myself to be kind to me. It really helped me to find calm and I could feel myself settle in to a comfortable rhythm of breath and swim stroke, actually enjoy it and complete the swim and be extremely proud that it did.

Highlighting to me that yoga isn't just about being on a mat in a studio, it is something that can be used in everyday situations and challenges.”

The swim takes place annually in August and is 2km. If you are inspired by this give Siobhan a shout and lets get a Move team in the water next August.

Congratulations Siobhan!
